INEOS has developed a science-based method for emissions accounting to gather GHG data for compliant scope 1 and scope 2 reporting according to the GHG Protocol. It tracks GHG performance across all INEOS sites based on robust performance metrics and to assess GHG reduction measures against quantified targets by 2030 and 2050.
INEOS respects the general principles on GHG reporting: relevance of information to internal and external audiences, consistency and transparency of methods, data sources and assumptions, comprehensiveness and accuracy of tables and figures, and traceability of progress; to the extent as reasonably possible.
GHG Reporting Scope
Using the INEOS science base, the group footprint is calculated per calendar year according to the GHG Protocol. When consolidating GHG data, INEOS excludes offices on the grounds of materiality and follows the Financial Control approach as defined in the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) and the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) Value Chain Implementation Guidance. As such, we fully consolidate data from subsidiaries, proportionally consolidate data from joint operations and joint ventures at equity share, and do not consolidate data from associates or minor investments. In addition, we fully consolidate data from leased ships where INEOS is the lessee.
The operational boundaries of the GHG inventory cover all process emissions, material emissions from stationary and mobile combustion, flaring and emissions from purchased energy.
INEOS GHG Footprint
GHG data are sourced from all INEOS sites within the scope defined above, using operational data, emission factors and recognised tools such as the GHG Protocol CHP tool. The quality of the GHG inventory is ensured with internal data consolidation with feedback loops.

a Other GHG emissions are converted to CO2-eq using the 100-year Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors from IPCC's sixth assessment report (AR6) since 2022, and fifth assessment report (AR5) in earlier years. Historical data are not recalculated to take account of AR updates due to the immaterial contribution of other GHG's to INEOS' inventory. In 2024, INEOS' CH4 and N2O emissions (consolidated according to the financial control approach) were 4,250 t and 146 t respectively. Other GHG data were collected only in tCO2-eq due to lower materiality.
b INEOS reports emissions associated with energy exported to 3rd parties as a separate subcategory of scope 1. All emissions in this category are considered as CO2 since the contribution of other GHGs is negligible (<0.01%).
c Scope 2 figures are based on gross energy purchase with negligible contribution of other GHGs (<0.01%). The highest quality available emission factors are used in accordance with the hierarchy in the GHG protocol.
d Transferred CO2 mainly covers captured carbon sold to third parties
